Today only Groupon is offering $10 admission for four to the Tracy Aviary in Salt Lake. It's definitely meant to be because just yesterday my friend was telling me he'd love to go, but since he doesn't have kids he'd be that creepy guy walking around all by himself.

Deal of my day

After a less-than-stellar start to the morning (tantrum, anyone?) I finally got Aspen calmed and collected. While she played at my feet with an empty plastic cup, I browsed Gilt Groupe for the heck of it.

I'm so glad I did because I found this yarn kit for $15. It has 6 colors (50 yards each) needles, hook and instructions for kids to learn how to knit.

Aspen is never going to see this "toy" because I'm keeping it for myself. I'm going to learn how to knit! Who cares if the instructions are illustrated and written for children? That just means it might be even easier for me.

I also picked up a sweet little cardi ($7) and a bath toy ($7) for the wee one. I felt it only fair after buying myself the knitting starter kit. I'll probably save the bath toy for her birthday because I'm realizing I have yet to get anything for her. Not to mention the fact that I like to introduce new-to-her toys very sporadically so as not to let her get bored of them all at once.

Is she kidding with these hand-made, metallic pink moccasins?! Really? I've seen babies in blogland wearing these moccasins (usually the brown ones) but until today hadn't visited the Freshly Picked website.

Crafty Mc-Crafterson

I bought this beautiful, floral top from Stacey's shop and unfortunately it just didn't fit right. Everything else I've purchased was spot on, but with this I couldn't make it work. So, I decided to do something else with it... besides wear it, I mean.
Aspen took an unheard of THREE HOUR NAP so I made my shirt into a rossette bib necklace. I couldn't believe she slept the entire time I hot-glued, rolled and pinched strips of fabric into roses. And then I had time to twiddle my thumbs and drink a Mtn Dew!

I'm so proud of both of us; Aspen for enjoying a real nap, and me for doing something productive.

I bought this H&M sheath dress for $15 from the Love&Photographs shop. I really enjoy pairing it with my old-school mary janes (from ROSS) but as the weather warms, this dress will definitely need to be hooked up with some sandals. Time to dig in my closet for just the right ones!

Delight in Ross

I picked up a sparkly pair of flats from Ross that are so comfortable they were worth the wait.

In the past I never bought flats because they were uncomfortable. I'm so glad that lately I've found three pairs that fit well enough to keep me pain-free. Yea!!

And I love sparkles. How long until Aspen gets a hold of these and swallows a bead?

Sassy GAP

I'm almost crying because this one-piece skunk suit doesn't come in Aspen's size. I would die if I could get her in it next winter. It'd be a fun replacement for the bear suit she'll outgrow this spring (can you believe it's still cold enough in MAY for her to be wearing a bear suit?!).

A trick up my sleeve

I don't know how to sew. Kev has a sewing machine that he knows how to use, but I am so lazy I doubt I'll learn any time soon.

But that's okay, because I found this no-sew bunting (made with felt) online and I can whip some up lickity-split for Aspen's birthday!

I'll probably go ahead and purchase felt from the same Etsy shop as Lindsay did because I can order just the colors I want.

How cool is this going to be?

My sister couldn't believe I got this at Walmart.

My brothers both gave me Walmart giftcards, and I made myself use them for something fun instead of groceries.

So I browsed online and picked out this polka-dot dress, hoping it would fit well and have a great shape and structure. You know how some jersey dresses kind of look like they just threw up on you?

Yeah, was hoping to avoid that.

Thankfully, I did! This dress fits a-maze-ing and it came in time for me to wear the weekend my niece was blessed. My mom loves dots too, and I knew she'd have an outfit to match me... so all the girls ended up wearing dots that Sunday.

We're special like that.

If you're in need of an inexpensive dress with a modest fit and flattering shape, get this from Walmart. Seriously. I just recommended a dress of Walmart. And I have my eye on this one, if it ever gets in stock in my size again. I'd love to wear it with my short, black shrug and jeweled sandals.
